Free on-line video frame to image extractor

This Video Frame Extractor Tool allows you to upload a video and extract still frames from any point in the timeline. You can pause, step through frames, capture exact moments, and download them as PNG images.

1. Opening the Tool

When you open the Video Frame Extractor page, you’ll see two main sections:

  • Left Panel: Video upload, playback, and navigation controls
  • Right Panel: Current frame preview and download button

2. Uploading a Video

Click the “Upload MP4 Video” button to select a video file from your computer.

  • Supported formats: MP4, MOV, AVI, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV
  • After upload, a video preview player appears on the left side.
Note: Large video files may take a few seconds to load before playback begins.

3. Video Playback and Timeline Control

Once your video is loaded, you can control playback using the on-screen buttons:

  • ⏮️ Jump to First Frame: Moves playback to the very start (time 0).
  • ⏪ Step Backward: Moves backward by one frame (approx. 1/30 of a second).
  • ▶️ Play / Pause: Toggles playback. You can only extract frames when paused.
  • ⏩ Step Forward: Moves forward by one frame (approx. 1/30 of a second).
  • ⏭️ Jump to Last Frame: Moves playback to the final frame of the video.

You can also use the time slider to manually scrub through the video timeline:

  • The position indicator displays the current time and total duration (e.g., 12.533 / 120.000).
  • Drag the slider to move to a specific moment in the video.

4. Extracting a Frame

The tool automatically displays the current video frame in the Current Frame section on the right.

To extract a frame:

  1. Pause the video at your desired time.
  2. Ensure the frame appears clearly in the preview canvas.
  3. Click “Download Frame as PNG” to save the current frame to your computer.
Each frame is saved as a PNG image using your video’s name and a timestamp (e.g., myvideo-20251029-141500.png).

5. Navigating by Frames

If you need precise control, use the Step Forward and Step Backward buttons to move one frame at a time. This allows you to isolate the exact moment you want to capture.

The tool assumes a standard frame rate of 30fps for fine-grained frame stepping.

6. Saving Extracted Frames

Click “Download Frame as PNG” under the preview to save your current frame. The image file is downloaded immediately.

  • Saved images retain the same resolution as your video (no quality loss).
  • Each downloaded frame includes a unique timestamp in the filename.

7. Recommended Workflow

  1. Upload your video file.
  2. Play to your desired scene and pause.
  3. Use Step Forward or Step Backward for precision.
  4. Preview the frame in the right panel.
  5. Click Download Frame as PNG to save.
