Free on-line image resizer tool
This Image Resizer Tool allows you to resize images or adjust their canvas dimensions easily in your browser. You can upload an image, choose new dimensions, change the background (transparent or solid), rescale the image, maintain aspect ratio, and download the resized result.
1. Opening the Tool
Open the Image Resizer page in your application. You will see two main panels:
- Left Panel: Image controls and settings
- Right Panel: Preview of your resized image
2. Uploading an Image
Click the “Choose File” button to upload an image from your computer.
Once uploaded:
- A preview of your original image appears.
- The original image dimensions (width × height) are displayed below the preview.
3. Setting Canvas Size
Under the Canvas Size section, use the resolution selector to define the new dimensions for your image canvas.
- Default size is
1920 × 1080pixels. - You can manually enter custom width and height values.
4. Choosing Background Type
You can choose what type of background fills the canvas:
- Transparent: Leaves background transparent (ideal for PNG images).
- Solid Color: Lets you select a background color using a color picker.
If you choose “Solid Color”, a color selection field will appear where you can pick your desired background color.
5. Rescaling Options
Below the background settings, you can choose how the image fits the new canvas:
- Rescale image to fit new canvas: Adjusts the image size to fit inside the new dimensions.
- Maintain original aspect ratio: Ensures the image’s proportions stay the same (no distortion).
If you leave the rescale option unchecked, the original image will remain the same size and simply be centered on the new canvas.
6. Resizing the Image
Once your settings are ready, click the “Resize” button. The tool will process your image and display the result in the Resized Image section on the right.
7. Previewing and Downloading
After resizing, the new image preview will appear in the right panel. You can then click the “Download Resized Image” button to save it to your computer.
The file will be downloaded in PNG format with a name like resized-canvas-1920x1080.png.
8. Common Use Cases
- Expanding canvas: Add transparent or colored padding around an image.
- Creating thumbnails: Resize large images to smaller standard sizes.
- Adjusting aspect ratio: Fit images into a 16:9 or 1:1 frame for social media or video covers.
9. Troubleshooting
- If you see “Please upload an image file”, make sure you selected a valid image format.
- If resizing fails, refresh the page and try uploading the image again.
- For best results, use modern browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari).
